If you are looking to add additional Ram for your pc or mac please see our guidelines for memory upgrades.
- Figure out how much additional memory is needed
(We recommed 1Gb Ram minimum for Windows XP and 2 GB Ram Minimum for Vista) - Recognize the type of memory needed
(If you do not know, please visit the computer manufacturer's website and search under the model # of the machine. Please write down the type (eg. DDR, DDR2, SDRAM), write down the Speed of the memory (eg. 400mhz, 800mhz), and also note if pairs of ram are needed.[e.g. 2 units of x 1 GB = 2gb ram])
- If you cannot find the type on the manufacturer website please do the following: (recommended not for beginners)
(Shut off computer and unplug the power. Make sure you do not have any static electricity by touching metal before doing so. Then take a screw driver and unscrew computer lid and set computer on side. Once you see the memory, take it out by opening latches on both sides and note information on white sticker. Please also note how many slots are available and if Ram is in pairs. After doing so, put everything back and turn on computer to search on your favorite search engine the information on Ram memory. Please note on websites, the speed and type (eg. DDR 400MHZ PC3200 CL3))
- Once you know the memory type, you can continue to the shopping phase and get your new 2gb ram upgrade. Just search around the internet and finds the best deal. We recommend not the cheapest but the proven track record known memory manufacturers such as Kingston, Samsung and IBM/Lenovo.
